About Me

Matina Genkova-Mpofu
Johannesburg, South Africa
I was born and grew up in Bulgaria (a small but beautiful country in Europe). I graduated from the University of National Economics in Varna, Bulgaria, with a Masters degree in Building Science. The first time I came to the Old Continent, specifically Zimbabwe, was a while ago. I visited the country with my brother as tourists and we both fell in love with Africa. A year later I met my future husband and that’s how I ended up first in Zimbabwe and later in South Africa. I have always loved books (and movies). Probably their way to make you escape the real world. Whoever thought that I would write! I started writing in the beginning of 2006. Everybody was in shock, including my husband and even myself. My first book is dedicated to my son. It’s called “Mom, why am I different?” I wrote it on the morning of Valentine’s day, I wrote it in a flash. After that I wrote 3 more books in a short space of time. And after that, a few more every now and then. They are yet to be published. My only son is a very curious and intelligent child who has been my inspiration for most of my books. I always loved kids and their innocence, openness, honesty.
